RLF is an outcome of 4 years of research at the Centre of Excellence in Tactile Graphics(CoETG), sponsored by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, (MeitY) Government of India. Our goal is to provide high-quality, affordable learning, and support materials with tactile diagrams for visually impaired learners. RLF converts textbooks, manuals, and resource books into an accessible format that the visually impaired student can easily read and understand diagrams which otherwise is missing from the material available currently. Our priority is to make Science and Mathematics diagrams accessible and enable students with visual impairment to pursue a career of their choice.
An inclusive society for all where persons with visual impairment have equal opportunities to maximise their potential.
Empowerment of persons with visual impairment by developing and providing solutions for inclusion in society with a focus on education, mobility, and independent living.
15 lakh visually impaired students in India lack equitable access to education, particularly due to the unavailability of accessible resources. Books have text accessible in Braille and audio but diagrams are eliminated. Lack of accessible necessary elements for conceptual understanding, in higher education limits their career options.
We have developed an innovative process to design and produce raised diagrams that students can touch and understand. We create tactile books where the printed diagrams are converted into raised (2.5D) format that can be understood via touch. These tools help students to understand basic concepts of different shapes and objects in science, mathematics and geography.
RLF’s products alleviate the burden on educators, by reducing time spent on creating handmade diagrams, focussing more on teaching, and enhancing the overall educational experience for students.
