Have you ever wondered how a person with blindness would imagine a bus or a tiger?

India is home to around 15 lakh blind population and out of these 7 lakh are in the age group of 5 to 19. Within this group, only a small fraction is attending schools and colleges. But, most of the learning materials they have access to are without diagrams, making learning a complex task for them.

Visuals and pictures play a significant role in learning, which is why most school curriculums are diagrammatic and visually intensive. So one can only imagine how difficult learning must be for the visually impaired students.

Hence, less than 1% of visually impaired students can pursue a career in STEM. But we are trying to change that!

About us

Raised Lines Foundation is a not for profit, section 8 organization incubated out of IIT Delhi. RLF is an outcome of four years of research and development undertaken at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Tactile Graphics at IIT Delhi, sponsored by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Government of India.

The team started working in 2014 to develop the process for end-to-end design and production of affordable tactile diagrams. These tactile diagrams helps visually impaired students with a better understanding of the concepts in Mathematics, Science, and other subjects.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Raised Lines Foundation is a not-for-profit organization incubated out of IIT Delhi, committed to making education accessible and inclusive for visually impaired students. We design and produce tactile books, STEM kits, and educational resources that incorporate braille with large text along with tactile diagrams to help students understand STEM concepts. Our programs aim to bridge the accessibility gap in education by providing innovative solutions and promoting inclusion.

RLF addresses the lack of accessible STEM resources for visually impaired students by creating tactile materials that include raised diagrams (that can be understand via touch) and illustrations essential for subjects like Science, Mathematics, and Geography. Through our different initiatives and accessible STEM resources we empower students to grasp concepts that are otherwise challenging due to the unavailability of inclusive resources. Our goal is to encourage more students with visual impairments to explore and excel in STEM fields.

You can support our mission by:
Donating: Your contributions help us produce tactile resources and conduct training sessions.
Volunteering: Share your time and skills to assist in our projects.
